KOZHIKODE, Jul 20, 2005 :

National Development Front, Keralam (NDF) has expressed apprehension that declaring of the Illegal Migrants (Declaration by Tribunals) Act passed by Parliament for implementation in Assam in 1983, as ultra vires of the Constitution by the Supreme Court would impair the freedom of the minority community in that State.
In a statement here on Monday, NDF chairman E.M. Abdurehman said the step would strengthen fascist forces.

`Vigilance needed' The Central and State Governments should be vigilant as fascist forces had unleashed violence on the minority community in Assam, as was evident from the Nelli massacre, he said. The IMDT Act was passed with a view to containing such violence. With the Assembly election to be held in Assam in 2006, parties such as the Bharatiya Janatha Party and Asom Gana Parishad would exploit the situation under the cover of annulment of the Act, Mr. Abdurehman said.
