UDF to pay a heavy price : NDF Print E-mail

The National Development Front (NDF) today said it would launch a state-wide agaition if the Congress-led UDF government failed to implement the Justice Narendran Commission report on job quota to minorities before the announcement of civic polls in the state.

Addressing a press conference here, NDF chairman E M Abdurehman said his organisation was not against reaching a consensus among all political parties as suggested by the government, but would oppose tooth and nail any move to dilute the issue.

Accusing the government of attempting to scuttle the issue, he said two years had elapsed after submission of the report and talking about a consensus now was only aimed at appeasing organisations such as the Nair Service Society and Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana Yogam, which were against its implementation.

The UDF would have to pay a heavy price in the civic poll if the government further delayed implementation of the report, which called for special recruitment to fill vacancies earmarked for minorities like Muslims, Latin Catholics, fishermen and Nadars, he said.

He said the NDF would launch an agitation throughout the state, if the government did not an appropriate decision by August 24, as promised.
